2019 was a year with a heavy focus on inclusiveness for Adelaide University Sport and - thanks to our latest partnership with People's Choice Credit Union - we'll be continuing this theme from 2020. At the 111th annual Blues Awards we announced that, thanks to People's Choice, Adelaide University Sport will offer three new scholarships: one for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes, one for athletes with a disability and one for women in sport.
Adelaide University Sport General Manager Michelle Wilson is very excited to work with People's Choice. "We have spent time identifying an appropriate partner for these scholarships", said Michelle at the Blues Awards.
"Commencing in 2020, I am very pleased to announce that thanks to generous support of People’s Choice Credit Union, we will be able to offer these three scholarships. This is a three-year partnership that will see more University of Adelaide students supported in their sport and recreation journey. The scholarship will consist of $1,000 provided by People’s Choice Credit Union as well as the reimbursement of Adelaide University Sport club fees by Adelaide University Sport."
Michelle also highlighted the reasons behind Adelaide University Sport's commitment towards providing scholarships to students involved with sport. "Adelaide University Sport prides itself on providing sport and recreation opportunities for all students", said Michelle.
"We recognise the connection between sports participation and improved academic performance as well as the importance of providing support structures for students to excel."
People's Choice Spokesperson Stuart Symons said the credit union was looking forward to seeing the positive impact of the scholarships. “While members of People’s Choice are located across the country, we are proud of our ongoing commitment to being one of South Australia’s largest businesses,” Stuart said.
“We want to see the next generation of South Australian leaders succeed and grow, and these scholarships not only recognise the next generation of leaders, they support them in their sports and their studies. It is a positive partnership where everyone is committed to achieving the best for the community.”
Adelaide University Sport are very excited to work with People's Choice Credit Union to broaden our scholarship range even further to a wider variety of students to continue to promote inclusiveness and equal opportunity in sport. Details about how to apply for the scholarships will be communicated in February 2020.
