Tuesday, 27 October saw the club head to the Barr Smith Lawns for our Promotional Day. The timing was perfect with a warm and sunny day encouraging people to consider getting in the water again after winter, and being the last week of lectures, it was a relaxed atmosphere on the lawns before exam stresses set in!
With Stargazer providing the backdrop, the club took enquiries from 11am and the BBQ began at 11.30am. We also had some hire gear out on display to show to potential new members and our friends, the big blue dolphin and little nemo fish, also played their part in generating interest for the club.
Over the day, 13 new members were signed up, most of whom already had their open water qualification. We hope to see these members out diving with the club very soon! A big thank you is given to Sam and Ronnie for their excellent work on the recruitment side of things.
Of course, the other focus of the day was the BBQ! Dean was in charge here as the master chef, working hard to please the hoardes of hungry students, with the chicken kebabs proving to be most popular. Thanks Dean!
There are lots of other people to thank too: Brendan, who enabled Stargazer to join us for the celebrations, Kathy for her help throughout the whole Promo Day (including the ongoing and necessary cutting-of-the-sausages!), Gav for a last minute drinks run, the Sports Association for the finance and everyone else who helped or dropped by in between their lectures and tutes. It certainly was a fun and successful Promo Day, not to mention the extra funds we managed to raise for the club. Now time to get out diving again for those who have not been out for a while!
