Wing Chun Kung Fu Club

Adelaide University Wing Chun Kung Fu Club

Established: 1971

General Information: Wing Chun Kung Fu is a logical, scientific, yet simple martial art which provides both self-defence and fitness skills for people of all ages.

It was founded in China approximately 300 years ago by a Buddhist Nun, Ng Mei, an already accomplished Martial Artist who - legend has it - developed the system after witnessing a fight between a stork and a rodent.

Wing Chun is completely different from other Martial Arts because it emphasises economy of movement, which eliminates the need for brute strength. All of it's techniques are based on direct, practical, natural body movements which are easy to learn and can be applied immediately.

Wing Chun's superior skills are within the reach of anybody regardless of age, sex, body type or muscle development.

The Adelaide University Wing Chun Kung Fu club was founded by the late Grandmaster, Sifu Jim Fung. Grandmaster Jim Fung's International Wing Chun Academy has grown from humble beginnings at the University Club level to become one of the worlds largest and most respected Martial Arts Schools.

Ultimate Frisbee

Adelaide University Ultimate Frisbee Club

Established 2002

Ultimate Frisbeee is an international sport. The game is fast and free-flowing, it combines the
elements of netball, and those of fooball codes.
The AU Ultimate Frisbee club caters for players of all standards, and of course those who are new to the sport.
The club takes part in the Australian Univesity Games, local competition and recreational matches.
The basic aim is for the team with the frisbee to pass the disc up the field to others on their team and catch it
in the endzone. At the same time the defensive team is trying to intercept it or knock it down. If they succeed,
they get possession of the frisbee and are trying to score in the other endzone. Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact
sport. Intercepting or knocking down the frisbee must be done without interfering with other players. In practice,
a small amount of contact is unavoidable, but deliberate interference or aggressive play is not permitted.
Players cannot run when in possession of the disc, and have 10 seconds to throw the disc after taking possession.
