ATHLETES - SCHOLARSHIPS

Various scholarships are offered by Adelaide University Sport to current students, first year students and club members.
 

CURRENT STUDENTS


Prospective applicants should have outstanding ability in a particular sport and be an active member of an AU Sport club whilst a University of Adelaide student.

The scholarships are payable mid-year to assist with the payment of compulsory fees, textbooks and sporting equipment. 

In 2017, the following scholarships are on offer:
Established by AU Sport, which aims to provide and promote the best possible sport and recreation environment for the University of Adelaide community. This scholarship is to benefit two UofA students per year, who are undertaking an Undergraduate or Honours program of study.

  • The Charlie Jessop Sport Scholarship ($2,000 - one)
Is awarded on behalf of Charlie Jessop, an AU Sport life member who gave considerable contribution to the University of Adelaide, AU Sport & the Law. The scholarship is awarded to a UofA Law student, who not only excels in their chosen sport, but also gives valuable service to their AU Sport club.
  • The Don Stranks Sport Scholarship ($2,000 - one for cricket or one for football)
Dedicated to the late Professor Don Stranks, former Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President of the University and keen supporter of the Football and Cricket Clubs.
  • The Bob Heddle Sport Scholarships ($2,000 each - two in total)
In recognition of the many years of service and support given by Bob, who was Director of the University Health Service from 1964-1982.  During that time, Bob was a member of the University Council and the University Council Representative on the AU Sport Board of Management. The scholarships are awarded on merit to unspecified sports.

Where no “Don Stranks” Scholarship is awarded in any year, the number of “Bob Heddle” Scholarships may be increased.
  • The Bill Scammell Sport Scholarship ($2,000 - one)
Named after a former Chancellor of the University of Adelaide and supporter of AU Sport. This scholarship is awarded to a UofA student, who has contributed overall to his or her sporting club, both competitively and through support of the club. The Max Weir Award is not primarily to recognise sporting or academic ability but about recognition of an applicant who is active and involved in their Club, University or Local Community and who is likely to contribute to the Adelaide Uni Hockey Club through their paticipation in the Australian University Games.

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS


Prospective applicants should have outstanding ability in a particular sport and be willing to become an active member of an AU Sport club whilst a University of Adelaide student upon receiving the scholarship.

The scholarships are payable mid-year to assist with the payment of compulsory fees, textbooks and sporting equipment, as well as the payment of the athlete’s club membership fees for up to three years.


In 2017, the following scholarships are on offer:

  • President's Sport Scholarship ($1,000 - three)
Awarded to University of Adelaide students in their first year of study, as a financial incentive to join an AU Sport club. The scholarship holder must make himself/herself available for AU Sport club matches, including during University holidays, unless special permission is granted by the club and AU Sport. Also, the holder may not play for any other club, on loan or temporary transfer, during the three years of the scholarship.

AU SPORT CLUB MEMBERS

  • Coopers Award
The Coopers Award is awarded to an Adelaide University Sport affiliated club member to undertake further studies in sports management, or a University of Adelaide student, who is also an AU Sport club member, to undertake leadership training. The award is to the value of $1,000 and is awarded to one applicant each year.
 
  • 2016 AUCC Introductory Racing Scholarship
The AU Cycling Club Introductory Racing Scholarship is proudly donated by their previous President John Springbett. The scholarship is awarded to a first year rider that has shown oustanding performance at all levels at the club.
