Board elections result

I wish to formally advise of the results of the elections that were declared on Friday 29 May at the AGM/Council meetings. The successful candidates were: PRESIDENT (1 year term) - Andres Munoz-Lamilla (Athletics) DEPUTY PRESIDENT (1 year term) - Tim Collin (Hockey) HON. TREASURER (1 year term) - Emilio Roberts (Athletics) GENERAL BOARD MEMBER (2 year term) Jeff Dutschke (Touch) Cheryl Ley (Badminton) Daren Potts (Lacrosse) They join Bob Maloney (Football) and Stephen Harfield (Ultimate Frisbee), who are current General Board members and do not retire until 2010.

Changes in AUSA office

We say farewell on 30 June to Holly Noack, one of our Sports Development Officers, who has accepted a scholarship at the WA Institute of Sport to help fast track her running career. Holly's part time role will be filled by Leah McLean, our current Administration Officer, who will work with Caitlin Stanley in the sports development area. Helen Turner now joins the AUSA staff as Administration Officer. We also wish to thank Belinda Tester, who admirably came to the Association's rescue as Acting Administration Officer back in March, when we were short staffed and much catch up work was required. AU Hockey Preseason Heats Up

  Adelaide University Hockey Club has begun its 2009 season preparations with some tough preseason fitness sessions around Adelaide. The second week of preseason saw the Guys and Girls battle through a grueling session in the snake pit at the police academy Largs Bay followed four days later by an 8km leg burning run up and down Mt Lofty. Newly appointed Men’s Premier League coach Roger McDonald is keen to have his boys at peak fitness by the season opener on the 18th/19th of April. “2009 is a clean slate for these players and they all need to prove that they have what it takes to make the grade”. 2009 Southern University Games

Melbourne 5 to 8 July 2009 12 sports - Australian Rules football, Badminton, Basketball, Football (soccer), Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Tennis, Touch, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball and Water Polo fast 5s. With the new qualification for the 2009 Australian University Games (AUG) of only one team per university per sport able to be entered into the AUG, ie one team in either Division 1 or Division 2, participation in the Southern University Games (SUG) is particularly critical for some team sports. The AUSA's sports development officers, Holly Noack and Caitlin Stanley, will be liaising with the sports coordinators for those sports affiliated to AUSA to ascertain their interest in nominating teams for the SUG.

2009 Australian University Games Sunday 27 September - Friday 2 October Gold Coast - Queensland In 2009, Australia's largest annual multi sport event will be held on the Gold Coast. The Games provide an opportunity for university athletes to compete against each other in a national multi sport event. As such, the Games has built a reputation as a not-to-be-missed event attracting over 6,000 participants from over 40 universities each year. In 2009, the Games boasts a program of 28 sports and will operate with support from Queensland Events, Gold Coast City Council and the Queensland Government....
